Blagojevich Calls for Review of New Casino License 3/23/2004 (Craig Cooper, The Quad City Times) Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday that the public does not trust Illinois gaming regulators when it comes to a casino license in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont and that he wants an independent evaluation of the process. Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., the owner of the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf and the Rhythm City Casino in Davenport, won an auction last week for an inactive Illinois gaming license in bankruptcy court. Isle of Capri, which paid $518 million for the license, plans to develop a $150 million floating casino property in Rosemont. The license had been held by Emerald Casino during the early 1990s. Management of the bankrupt company was accused of selling shares of the casino business to individuals with alleged ties to organized crime. Full Story
