WPT Enterprises loss widens in 2nd quarter 8/7/2008 (CNN Money) NEW YORK (Associated Press) - WPT Enterprises Inc. said Wednesday that its loss widened in the second quarter on a decrease in domestic television license fees. The developer of the television show World Poker Tour reported a net loss for the quarter of $3.9 million, or 19 cents per share, compared with a loss of $3.3 million, or 16 cents per share, in the same period last year. Revenue fell 34.3 percent to $5.1 million from $7.7 million. Domestic television license revenue was $2.4 million, compared with $4.3 million. The company cited lower per-episode license fees, under an agreement with the network, GSN, compared with the Travel Channel agreement in effect in the second quarter of 2007. Online gaming revenues rose modestly. "We continue to be disappointed in our online gaming results and have begun directing resources in our growing sponsorship business," said WPT president and CEO Steve Lipscomb in a statement. "On the other hand, we continue to be encouraged by the strength of our brand in the domestic and international marketplace." Full Story
