Lobbyist also works for group opposed to casino 3/16/2004 (www.lasvegassun.com) PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The chief lobbyist for a Rhode Island tourism association at the state Legislature is also on the payroll of the casino operator that has partnered with the Narragansett Indian tribe to get legislative approval to build a casino in West Warwick. Brian Goldman is being paid $2,500 a month by Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas to convince lawmakers to put the casino proposal before voters this November. He is one of nine Harrah's lobbyists in Rhode Island. Goldman also has been a longtime lobbyist for the Rhode Island Hospitality and Tourism Association. While the association opposes the casino, its executive committee gave Goldman permission to take the Harrah's job, provided he remove himself from any situations where there could be a conflict of interest, The Providence Journal reported. "We recognize the man has a right to make a living," said J. Rudi Heater, the vice chairman of the association's board of directors. "We feel it is doable."  Full Story
